Federal, state and local Australian government grants and loans are available for many areas in the  Research & Development industries, some examples of funding available include:

 

Aimed at the placement of researchers from universities and public research agencies with organisations that want to develop and implement new products or services or have an idea with commercial prospect. Funding for up 50 per cent of wages is available up to a maximum of $50,000. Each placement can be from 2 -12 months conducting most of the research with the organisation on site.

Bio Innovation assists researchers and start up companies: To access funding from the public and private funding sector. Australian bioscience companies can develop their business with grants of $250,000.

Technology Scheme: Promotes the encouragement of employment and exports by promoting the technologies Industry on the domestic and international markets. Successful applicants will:
• Have their product advertised via web and newsletter
• Receive support from an assigned business manager
• Have access to network opportunities such as: expos and workshops

Programs aimed at improving the competitiveness of Australian industry: By providing import duty concessions on certain imported raw materials and intermediary goods Eg: chemical, plastics or paper goods. In addition, they may cover metal materials and goods that are used for food packaging.

Commercialisation Assistance
:
• Grants of up to $50,000 available to access specialist advice and services to gain skills and knowledge required to gain new ideas in successful commercialisation of new products
• Grants up to $200,000 over a two year period to employ experienced executives
• Grants from $50,000 up to $250,000 to verify any new products process or services commercial viability
• Grants from $250,000 up to $2 million for further development a new product, process or service so it will be ready for market (repayable)

Skills and Knowledge’ Providing participants with support to access specialist advice and services to: Build the skills, knowledge and linkages that are required for successful commercialisation of new products, processes and services. Aimed at supporting people new to the commercialisation industry assisting researchers, entrepreneurs and small companies who know their product, process or service has commercial potential, but don’t know what to do next. Funding up to $50,000 is available for successful applicants.

A global competition and annual award
to find and showcase new inventions and innovations offered to innovators, inventors, entrepreneurs and small to medium enterprises offering $60,000 in cash and prizes and over $100,000 worth of outstanding publicity and promotion.

Fund managers seeking to raise a new venture capital fund of at least $10 million and less than $100 million for investing in Australian businesses.

For small and medium business to participate in major projects: and increase access to global supply markets for major projects. Saving companies time and money: by providing funds for networks and specialist consultants to work with project developers: Identifying supply opportunities for capable and competitive Australian companies. Examples might include urban transport, water management, renewable energy, information and communication technology, and health services.

Development to assist small business, create and implement plans for international competitiveness: An independent specialist can be appointed to undertake group programs or one on one service by the business. Services include: Group Programs, Networks Program and Supply Chain Management.

Tariff duty concessions: Providing an opportunity for Australian industry to access tariff duty concessions on eligible goods for major projects in the mining, resource processing, agriculture, food processing, food packaging, manufacturing, gas supply, power supply, and water supply industries where clear conditions apply.

Australian companies can access the $1.1 billion ‘Green Fund’ which will provide assistance over ten years, commencing 2009-10, for projects enhancing the research and development and commercialisation of Australian technologies that significantly reduce fuel consumption and/or greenhouse gas emissions of passenger motor vehicles.
